Probe Sent to Pluto Was powered by Original PlayStation CPU!!

What if you got to know that your smartphones are much more powerful than the computers who landed man on Moon which became "The Giant leap for mankind". Incredible isn't it. Here's one more mind blowing fact about the space explorations of NASA.

It turns out that the Probe sent to the planet (or not a planet) Pluto back then in 2006 is powered by Original PlayStation' CPU!! It is interesting because the probe which is about to reach it's destination in 2015 is running on the CPU of PlayStation's 1994 model. The CPU itself is the MIPS R3000 CPU which was re-purposed by NASA back in 2006.

But why so old technology in this much bigger project? Actually NASA prefers relies on Old and tested technologies against the latest. Which is logically right thing to do because, you cannot sent a technician or engineer far away in space to fix if anything goes wrong. So, technology which has proved itself much more reliable has to be used even if it's that old.

It's turns out that NASA made a right choice. The probe was launched back in 2006 and its about to reach Pluto now in 2015 and it's quiet impressive for a chip which is a bit older than 2 decades.

Now you would look differently towards your PlayStation, proudly indeed.

Drive "Unlimited" on a sunny day, with 0 fuel in tank.

Want to go on a drive on a sunny day with friends/family, gotta fuel problem? The "Immortus" is a car designed to let you drive unlimited distance on a speed of 60 km/h!! with a condition of sunny day. Sounds crazy yepp... it is, but true.

The Immortus is an electric car which which charges it's battery through 7 sq. m. of solar cells which cover whole of it's bonnet top and the back except the glass surface. The Immortus is founded by Australian Aurora Solar car team which has completed some solar car race events.

The car's shape is beautiful and minimalistic which super aerodynamic design which includes covered wheel. The light weight design and shape of Immortus give maximum exposure of sun to the solar panels.

Unlike the racer cars it is designed to be on road. With top speed of 150 km/h and reaches 0-100 km/h in mere 7 seconds. The car is two seater and has optimum luggage capacity for daily use. Even the makers say the fun is a priority and tells that it will handle like a well made sports car.

The car uses small 10 kWh lithium ion phosphate battery. It has twin DC motors which are placed upright leading to each rear wheel hub each with peak output of 20 kw and total of 40 kw. It may sound less but car is designed in such a way that it will use the most of it's power.

The feather light design of the car of 550 kg give Immortus a power-to-weight ratio and acceleration equal to the Mazda MX5. The Immortus won’t use regular road tires. It’ll use tires specifically designed for solar racers, very thin wheels with low-friction tires that prioritize low rolling resistance over grip.

The company expects the car’s small 10 kWh battery pack to be good for just under 400 km (248 mi) worth of range even at night, when there’s no solar assistance topping it up. When the sun’s out and the road’s clear, that range goes up, effectively to infinity if you stay around 60 km/h. Upping the pace to 85 km/h the range drops to about 550 km.
